It’s no secret that NOLA natives love football. Whether they’re cheering on the Saints or supporting their favorite college team, locals everywhere have pretty strong feelings about the nation’s most popular sport. If you’re a football fanatic, you’ve probably snagged tickets to the highly-anticipated 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship—and it’s sure to be an evening you’ll never forget.

The Venue
Even if you aren’t a New Orleans local, you’re probably familiar with the impact the Mercedes-Benz Superdome has had on our community. Not only is this massive stadium the home of the New Orleans Saints, but it’s also hosting the College Football Playoff National Championship for the very first time.

The Teams
Ready to watch Clemson and Louisiana State in action? These two teams have both appeared in the National Championship before, but this year, there’s even more at stake. Last year, Clemson stole the title from the Crimson Tide and is back to defend their honor—but they’ll be facing off against a hometown favorite.
After tackling the Peach Bowl, the LSU Tigers became the second team in the NCAA to achieve a perfect 14-0 record for the season. Although this is their first championship appearance, they’ll likely have an advantage over Clemson due to the game’s location. New Orleans loves to support their home teams, and the Tigers will certainly have plenty of cheering fans in the crowd!
Clemson, on the other hand, is aiming to keep their trophy for the second year in a row. Their 29-23 victory at the Fiesta Bowl came as a surprise, especially for Ohio State fans. Now, the Tigers face an uphill battle as the 3rd seed—but there’s still a chance they could come out on top.
The Game
This year’s game is going to be a recordbreaker in more ways than one. Not only is it the first time Nola has hosted a college championship game, but the champion will also become only the second team to finish 15–0 in a single season since the 1897 Penn Quakers.
Unsurprisingly, the Tigers are the current favorites, with current odds having them up by 5.5 points. Although these teams have played against each other before, Clemson did manage to defeat LSU at the 2012 Chick-Fil-A Bowl. No matter what happens, it’s expected to be a high-scoring game—and plenty of visitors will be enjoying everything our city has to offer.
